Swine flu now transmitted to pigs - Another operating system infected

We are now getting reports of the virus having been transmitted from humans to pigs. This is a significant development as it means that another "device" on the network can spread the virus. It is akin to a computer virus, hoping into another operating system and being able to infect machines of the original operating system and the new one.

The Age of the Pandemic

April Fool... May Fool

Funny story. On the 1 April 2009, I picked up a post on the Silicon Valley Watcher blog which I get a feed on (worth a watch some intersting posts for anyone industry related) entitled "Google Quietly Drops Its 'Don't Be Evil' Motto" by Tom Foremski.

Google Trends 2.0 (beta?) - Predicts the future

Thanks Dean

Interesting new implementation of Google Trends, re-inventing itself again. It does that so well...

It has been already for a while this by the looks of things and it could be VERY INTERESTING. This looks like Google Trends 2.0 (beta) (always), it definitely looks like a slicker more functional version of the current Google Labs trends (actually let me check they have not changed it, since I last looked at it on Sunday...) Nope still the normal Google Labs one. I can see Google moving into future prediction at some point, not on the flu, just in general. Although

WHO - Swine Flu - Pandemic Severity Index 6 (this is ONLY a drill)

How prepared are we for a pandemic? Many governments of the world had been planning for the next pandemic since the SARS and bird flu pandemic scares. However how much of this planning has been related to social infrastructure?

The real threat in a pandemic situation in a developed country which runs on “just in time” delivery could quite possibly be that social infrastructure is severely disrupted.

11 Indispensible (but less well known and free) tools for Windows sysadmins

After working in sysadmin and infrastructure management since the mid 90’s, I have established a few favourites.

RealVNC

This one is known, but it is a fantastic tool and always has been. OK there is not a default encrypted password, but it lets you when Windows kicks you out because your 2 sessions are up. Unfortunately, does not work too well on x64, but there is a paid x64 one, they have to make a living somehow!

Safe as Landmarks - Open Source Investment

Technorati Profile

Wallinger's White Horse

Apparently the Ebbsfleet Landmark Project is looking for £1000000, having already secured a million from the founding partners (Eurostar, Land Securities and LCR) who have provided substantial core funding and logistical support.

An open source investment opportunity?
