Google Earth Search for Missing Plane - REQUIRED

The other day I blogged about how useful it may be to the search for Air France AF447 to add the latest satellite images of the Atlantic and open it up to the Google Earth community to scour the ocean for debris. That became less relevant when they announced later that day that debris had been found.

They have now announced that the debris did not come from the plane. Two things here:

1) It is ALL the more relevant now to have the Google Earth community assist finding the debris.

2) Where is the accountability in journalism when they publish information that would seem to be TOTALLY incorrect. This is especially true when loved ones and friends are waiting for any news. Reporting that airline seats were spotted in the water??? This reported on the BBC two days ago. Admittedly this was reported by the Brazilian Air Force and not only the Beeb picked up on it (http://www.google.com/search?q=plane+seats+and+other+items+were+sighted).

I wrote an email to Michael Jones, Google Earth CTO and asked why Google has not gone down this route yet. I suspect I will not hear anything back from him, but who knows, worth a try. I am sure there are other people out there wondering the same thing. Are you?

Update

Could not email Michael Jones, but there is a small discussion on Google Earth Help - http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/earth/thread?tid=4dd213e5befc22fc&...
